About the Class:
This course will be an in-depth study on drawing heads. Emphasis will be placed on an understanding the head’s structure and proportions in order to better understand the head from any angle.  The complex structures of the head will be simplified into manageable units of gesture, shapes, and structure. Each session will be supplemented with lectures, drawing concepts, and demonstrations. This course analyzes the application of both traditional and unconventional principles and techniques for use of any instrument of drawing, whether it is graphite pencil, charcoal, paint or computer software.

Course level:
This class is for beginning to intermediate students.  Some drawing experience is recommended but not required.

Class Format:
This course will be taught live via Zoom and will run for 10 weeks, 3 hours each session. We will start each session with the lecture and demos for the week’s topic. We will draw from high quality photo references from professional models. All lectures and critiques will be recorded and made available for students to view. Class will be limited to 10 students.

Materials:
This course will be taught with a mixture of traditional and digital lectures.  Students are encouraged to use a traditional medium but not required. A supply list for materials will be emailed.

Media Requirements:
Users need a Zoom mobile app or desktop application for Windows or Mac. A Zoom account isn’t required to attend a meeting. Students will be sent the class link to be connected.

Refund Policy:
For cancellations, the deadline for a full refund is 5 days before class starts. After that, only a partial, %50 refund will be given once the class has started. This refund will only be granted up until the 5th session of the class.  No refund will be issued after the 5th session of the class. A full refund will be issued if the course is cancelled by EdgarSilvaArt before the term starts. A prorated amount will be refunded if a class is cancelled by EdgarSilvaArt after the term has begun.

Week 1-  Introduction to process simplification of form and construction
Intro to class, art as an idea, and drawing process 1D (Gesture) -2D-3D (Structure).
Basic breakdown of the major forms, proportion, and construction process.

Week 2- Simple breakdown, form connections; head, neck and shoulder construction
Continue Gesture and Structure
Introduce standard proportions of the head structure. Establish simple form connections; head, neck and shoulder.

Week 3-       Stander proportions            
Continue Simple form Connections
Introduce standard proportion, and bony landmarks.

Week 4 -          Head in perspective        
Continue Proportions
Introduce simple 3d forms, rhythms and extreme perspective using the L-T-L process.

 Week 5-    Planes of the head
Continue Extreme Perspective
Introduce specific planes of the head
Further breakdown of head planes brow-ridge structure, muzzle of the mouth, and setting up for placement of features.

Week 6-   Features structure breakdown, part 1 of 2
Continue Planes of the head
Introduce features of the head, including nose and mouth structure.

 Week 7-    Features structure breakdown, part 1 of 2
