Edgar Silva
Artist's Statement
The theme and direction of my art is to capture the hard work, culture, and aspirations of the people that surround me. I strive for honesty and sincerity that reflects our time, in Los Angeles’ working class community. Family, friends, and my community are painted in oil in a naturalist manner. I am deeply influenced by masters, such as Anders Zorn, Antonio Lopez Garcia, Diego Velazquez, Edgar Degas, Frank Brangwyn, Joaquin Sorolla, John Singer Sargent, Jules Bastine Lepage, Nicolas Fechin, and Saturnino Herran.
I have had the good fortune to study on a full scholarship at Art Center College of Design. My education included great instructors: Aaron Smith, Scott Hess, Sergio Sanchez, Charles Hu, Kent Williams, Kevin Chen, Steve Huston, Kinman Chan, Dan McCaw, Bill Perkins, John Asaro, Sean Cheetham, Richard Morris, Danny Galieote, Jeff Smith, Bob Kato, Jim Salvati, Ron Brown, Ben Thompson, Thomas Stubbs, Nathan Fowkes, Mike Hernandez, Robh Ruppel, Sunny Apinchapong, Mian Situ, Alex Gross, Rob Clayton, David Luce, Rey Bustos, Alex Shafer, Gary Meyer, Scott Robinson, Neville Page, and many others.
Currently I teach classes at several art colleges and workshops that cover drawing and painting from life. I am currently available for commissioned portraits.
